Welcome Home Sunday!

You may not be able to go home again, as the saying goes, but you can always come back to church. No matter how far you have traveled from home this summer, no matter how many services of worship you have missed, we welcome you back with open arms on Sunday, September 10th, for Welcome Home Sunday.

Theologian Reinhold Niebuhr once wrote, “The human spirit is incapable of ridding itself of an abiding sense of homelessness.” That may be so, but worship, in and of itself, is a form of homecoming. It is putting ourselves in the place where we know we are loved – by God and by our fellow worshipers, where it is safe to tell the truth, safe to be who we really are in the presence of the holy and loving God. It is coming home to the one true place that we belong.

So come and join us for worship and lots of fun festivities following the postlude. Invite your neighbors and friends, and those members whom you haven’t seen in a while. Following worship, there will be food and fellowship, games for the children, face painting and rides on “Old Faithful,” an ice cream sundae bar, and even an old fashioned “cake walk.”

Session members will be present with information on the mission and ministries of the church and the work of the church committees. You will have the opportunity to sign up to serve the church in a variety of ways and be able to sign-up for church programming – Bible study, youth & children’s programs, choir, and more! It is a wonderful way to begin the fall school and program year by making your way home to worship, home to the church.

I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer. I’m looking forward to welcoming you home.

Shalom,

Paul
