The Feast of Saint Martin (Luther King, Jr.) Rather than recognizing saints on their birthday as the culture at large does, it is the church’s custom to recognize saints on the day of their martyrdom. To that end, Interim Pastor Rev. Dr. Michael Piazza long has encouraged churches to recognize and celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the Sunday closest to April 4, the day Dr. King was assassinated, rather than on the federal holiday in January, which seems to become more commercialized every year. So, THIS Sunday, April 7, we will observe the Feast of Saint Martin at both worship services. In the morning, we will welcome members of the Serendipity Chorale of Southwestern Connecticut, a multicultural singing group led by Gigi Van Dyke, and we have invited Rev. Dr. Daniel Hickman from New Canaan’s Community Baptist Church to deliver the message at our 5 p.m. Eventide service.
