Christmas Doves Each holiday season, First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan joins with other area churches to participate in Person-to-Person’s “Christmas Dove” program.  Through this program, P2P, a nonprofit based in Darien whose vision is communities of financially-stable, hunger-free homes, with educational opportunities for all, is able to provide a full day of food at the holidays for approximately 800 seniors and families. Participation is easy. Simply select a white or green dove from the tree in the narthex, and then follow the instructions printed on it. If you would like to provide food, please select a white dove and then, per the instructions on the dove, fill a box or two with food for Christmas Day. A required $20 contribution allows Person-to-Person to purchase supermarket gift cards so each family can choose their own meat/protein. When you choose a green dove, you are a expressing your desire to make a financial contribution to P2P’s scholarship or emergency assistance funds, which can be mailed directly to Person-to-Person. Scholarships enable eager students to continue their education, while the emergency assistance fund helps people with a fuel bills, rent, or medical expenses not covered by Medicaid. The doves will be available on a tree in the narthex beginning NEXT Sunday, November 25, as well as on December 2 and 9. Please return your wrapped boxes or identical reusable bags of food to the narthex on or before Saturday, December 15. If you have any questions regarding the “Christmas Dove” program, please contact Karen Hanson at 203-966-5140 or karenh81@optonline.net. Participation is open to everyone and is a wonderful way to awaken children to the joy of giving when the entire family joins together
